Darüşşafaka celebrates 100th in their sports history. Darüşşafaka Sports Club was established in 1914 and achieved great successes, initially in soccer and volleyball. The club founded a basketball team on June 4, 1951, and won high school and junior (ages 10-15) league basketball championships in 1950-51 and later seasons.

The success resulted in the club focusing on basketball. The team became a champion in Turkey in the 1960-61 and 1961-62 seasons, and made history by becoming the only Turkish team to qualify for the third round of European championships. Their achievement popularized Turkish basketball, and the team produced star players.
